Flow angle dependence for the asymmetry of broad 50-MHz coherent echoes at large magnetic aspect angles

چکیده
The skewness of broad Type 2-like spectra has been studied using data collected by two orthogonal CW 50-MHz radio links with co-located scattering volumes. Geometrical aspect angles of observations were about 10°. One short event was considered. For this event, the electron ̄ow direction was changing periodically (period about 9 minutes) presumably due to the passage of a magnetospheric MHD wave through the ionosphere. It was found that for the radar observations along the electrojet ̄ow, the skewness had the same sign as the mean Doppler shift with average absolute values in between 0.5±1.0. For observations perpendicular to the electrojet ̄ow, spectra were more symmetrical (average skewness was around 0) and the sign of the skewness was sometimes opposite to the sign of the mean Doppler shift. These observations are interpreted in terms of contribution from both the Farley-Buneman and gradient-drift instabilities to the resultant spectrum. Dierences with radar observations at small aspect angles are discussed.

Experimental Investigation of Asymmetry of Vortex Flow Over Single Delta Wings
It is generally believed that, on slender delta wings, there is a critical state at which strong asymmetric vortices are found along the leading edge on the lee-side of the delta wing. These asymmetric vortices can lead to high lateral forces even when slender delta wing is at the zero angle of yaw. Some experimental studies reported recently, cast considerable doubt as to the validity of the a...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of the Wake Flow Behind an Ellipse using Random Vortex Method (RESEARCH NOTE)
Direct numerical simulation of the wake flow around and behind a planar ellipse using a random vortex method is presented. Fluid is considered incompressible and the aspect ratios of ellipse and the angles of attacks are varied. This geometry can be a logical prelude to the more complex geometries, but less time dependent experimental measurements are available to validate the numerical results...
متن کاملDependence of radar signal strength on frequency and aspect angle of nonspecular meteor trails
[1] When a meteoroid penetrates Earth’s atmosphere, it forms a high-density ionized plasma column immersed in the ionosphere between approximately 70 and 140 km altitude. High-power, large-aperture (HPLA) radars detect nonspecular trails when VHF or UHF radio waves reflect off structures in a turbulent meteor trail. These trails persist from a few milliseconds to many minutes and the return fro...
متن کاملImaging radar observations and theory of type I and type II quasiperiodic echoes
Midlatitude E region plasma irregularities have been investigated using the Middle and Upper Atmosphere (MU) radar in Shigaraki, Japan, and the Clemson 30 MHz radar in South Carolina, USA. A new in-beam imaging technique has been incorporated in the data analysis. Radar images reveal that the coherent backscatter associated with quasiperiodic (QP) echoes mainly arrives from spatially localized,...

This study numerically investigated heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics in a novel cylindrical heat sink with helical minichannels for the laminar flow of fluid with temperature-dependent properties. A finite volume method was employed to obtain the solution of governing equations. The effects of helical angle, channel aspect ratio, and Reynolds number, which were regarded as main para...
